After one full year by the announcement of the opening of the Digital Sports Division , New Balance presented RunIQ, its first specific smartwatch for runners , based on Android Wear and developed in collaboration with Intel and Strava.
This smartwatch design is simple with a plastic shell, interchangeable straps and mainly devoted to functionality rather than the stylistic accuracy. Watching him, in fact, you immediately notice its sporty nature thanks to three customizable physical buttons , the perforated strap to allow adequate breathability, and the sensor for the heartbeat in the lower part.
Inside of this New Balance smartwatch we find an Intel processor and a battery that provides 5 hours of battery life with the active GPS and heart rate monitoring , or up to 24 hours of normal use. The wearable is also water resistant to 5 ATM (50 meters). As for the software, New Balance has been working intensively with Strava realizing a Fitness app that allows you to parse and display many detailed statistics on your training and then share them with the entire community of sports.
The RunIQ can be combined, of course, a couple of BT headphones, useful to listen to your own music playlist during your workout using Google Play Music , and, in this regard, New Balance also presented NB PaceIQ EarBuds , a couple of sports headsets from Jabra developed that will be available for purchase at a price of 115 Euros .
The first New Balance smartwatch, however, will be sold at a price not exactly content of 375 Euros , and both can be pre-ordered with shipments that will take place starting next February 2 . Interesting to point out that all those who purchase it before the actual availability , will be honored with 3 months Strava Premium .
