During the presentation of the new flagship processor, MediaTek also hinted at a new chipset that is preparing to make its debut in the new year. This is Dimensity 8000 , which should be a lower-priced alternative to Dimensity 9000, powering some mid-range smartphones.
Although the Chinese company has not revealed the details of this chip, some suggestions come to us from Leakster Digital Chat Station, which may have provided a fairly clear picture of its main features. However, it should be noted that, in the rumors of the past few weeks, the specifications that we will report were attributed to the Dimensity 7000 . We do not yet know if MediaTek has decided to abandon this name in favor of “8000” or, more simply, it is completely different chipsets. One thing is difficult to doubt: MediaTek in 2022 will have its say and will have no difficulty in competing with Qualcomm.
MediaTek Dimensity 8000: technical characteristics
The new chipset is expected to be made with the 5-nanometer TSMC process, which would allow it to be more powerful than the 6-nanometer Dimensity 1000 series processors . MediaTek may have made it to bring it to mid-range smartphones and still maintain respectable performance.
Dimensity 8000 could make use of the ARM V8 architecture and be an octa-core featuring four Cortex A78 cores (2.75 GHz) and four Cortex A55 cores (2.0 GHz). In support we should find the new graphics processing unit (GPU) Mali-G510 MC6, more efficient and twice as fast as the previous generation.
Additionally, if recent news is confirmed, there may also be support for fast charging up to 75W.
MediaTek Dimensity 8000: what it can do
If everything is confirmed, the MediaTek house chip should support Full HD + displays at 168 Hz and WQHD + displays at 120 Hz, characteristics perfectly in line with high-end smartphones. As for the memory, however, there will be compatibility with LPDDR5 RAM and ROM UFS 3.1.
The first to integrate Dimensity 8000 could be some Redmi and Realme models , but we will have to wait until 2022 to find out which ones. It is likely that due to the component crisis, MediaTek will be forced to delay the debut of this processor in favor of a Dimensity 9000 that promises fireworks.
