Elephone smartwatch R8 review: smartwatch at the price of a smartband

Today we bring you a very interesting review about a product that we were eager to try. Smartwatches are still one of the most sought after gadgets today to complete a perfect match with our mobiles. We have been able to test the Elephone smartwatch, the R8, for a few days and we loved it.

The Elephone firm is no longer unknown in the technological world . Thanks to several smartphone models that have managed to gain a foothold in the difficult Android market, the rest of their products arrive with part of the promotional work done. Elephone’s smartwatch arrives to confirm that we are dealing with quality products at incredible prices.

To access the different menu options offered by the Elephone R8, we can slide on the screen in the four possible directions

A complete smartwatch at the price of a smartband

When we seriously consider getting a smartwatch, we always take a look at the market to see in what price range we can move. Certainly, activity bracelets have evolved a lot in recent years. And there is, in some cases, almost no difference between some smartbands and smartwatches.

Analyzing the market a bit, it is easy to find activity wristbands on the market with prices much higher than the Elephone R8. Even analyzing the features and functionality offered by both, they are even more expensive, since they have some less than a watch. For this, and for much more, the Elephone R8 smartwatch has pleasantly surprised us .

Finding the balance between quality and price of a product is something that all manufacturers want to achieve. And all consumers want to find. Elephone is very close to hit the nail with the smartwatch R8 for several reasons. Such a complete and great looking watch would cost a lot more if it were from another manufacturer. The Elephone R8 has arrived to set the bar very high and here you can get it with a discount and promotional gift

Unboxing Elephone R8 smartwatch

If we look inside the slim box of this smartwatch we find everything we can expect. The watch in the foreground that appears with the strap unassembled , although this is something that will only take a few seconds. When taking the dial of this watch in your hands, we notice that we are facing a product with a minimum of high quality.

We have a charging cable with magnetized pins that connect consistently and safely. We will not need to make any effort to connect them since they are placed very easily. We may miss a wall charger for the cable, which is not included in the box. So we will need a USB port or another that we already have. And finally we find some documents related to the guarantee and a brief user guide .

Special mention deserves the Elephone R8 strap . It is really easy to put it on and / or remove it thanks to the small tab

Design “top” for the Elephone R8

Without a doubt, the design of the Elephone smartwatch is one of its strengths . And we will see with its specifications that it is not the only one. We start with a watch with a round dial , something that has the same number of detractors as supporters. A sphere with a size that we could consider “large” with a size of 1.28 inches . Ideal for those looking for a watch that is not small, but perhaps too large for those with a small wrist.

The dial is constructed of metal alloy materials with a truly pleasant finish and feel. Polished edges that offer an incredible appearance and that have a weight that makes it seem that we are dealing with a resistant and quality product. The software and the interface that Elephone has implemented in this R8 makes the entire surface of the screen take full advantage of it .

On the edges of the dial we find a single button, located on the left side, which is easily accessible with the opposite hand. The touch screen has different options depending on the gesture we make on it. With a touch we can activate the screen, something that we can also do with the gesture of turning the wrist to check the time.

On the back of the dial is the sensor for the heart rate monitor. Given its size, it makes a quick reading at any time without loss of sensitivity. In the lower area are the “pins” for charging the battery where, as we have mentioned, the charger is attached easily and efficiently.

Buy the Elephone R8 on the official website with a promotional gift and discount

Special mention deserves the Elephone R8 strap. It is really easy to put it on and / or remove it thanks to the small tab that it has at the end that is next to the sphere. Something that makes possible belt changes much easier. We have loved the touch it has , how good it feels on the skin and the lightness of the materials used for its construction. Something that does not influence at all in its robust look and feel.

Large and versatile dial

To access the different menu options offered by the Elephone R8, we can slide on the screen in the four possible directions. If we slide from top to bottom we access a quick menu where we can select the “do not disturb” mode, “find my phone” or the brightness level, among other settings that we can even customize with those that are most useful for us.

If we slide from right to left we obtain health- related information. We can see our evolution in the activity rings (steps, distance and calories). Obtain at the moment a reading of our heartbeat or consult data on the quantity and quality of our sleep. By sliding from the bottom up we can check all the notifications that we have configured to receive on the smartwatch.

Finally, sliding from right to left we will get access to the main menu and clock options . Control music, weather information, stopwatch and device settings for more advanced settings. A whole catalog of possibilities that make the Elephone R8 postulate as one of the most interesting options of the moment.

the Elephone R8 postulate as one of the most interesting options of the moment

Pros and cons

Before talking about the best and the best of the Elephone R8 it seems fair to comment something about the application of use. We have always commented that having a manufacturer’s own app improves the usability of any device. But this time we have been able to see how with a third-party application you can also get the most out of a device like this. Very good synchronization and the number of options at our disposal with the FitCloudPro App.

Pros

  • The design of the Elephone R8 makes it a really attractive smartwatch and gives it a premium look .
  • The construction materials of both the metallic alloy dial and the silicone of its strap.
  • Very wide catalog of configuration options and possibilities of use.
  • Without a doubt the price is a very important point given the quality it offers.

Cons

  • Having a circular screen with a size of 1.28 inches can be a big clock for some anatomies.
  • The weight that many may like to be consistent can be an obstacle for those looking for a much lighter device.
  • Not having the charging adapter for the electric current is a small fault.

Sonoff Basic: WiFi smart switch to automate lighting and appliances

For those who are interested in the theme of “Smarthome” or intelligent home, in this article we present a gadget that you surely like. This is the Sonoff Basic intelligent WiFi switch , an intelligent switch that allows us to turn on and off any home electronic device with our smartphone.

If you have a 3D printer at home or nearby, you can print a Sonoff programming clip

Sonoff Basic WiFi Smart Switch

  • Measures: 90 x 40 x 24 mm
  • WiFi: 802.11 b / g / n (WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK)
  • Integration is only possible in the 2.4GHz frequency band
  • Maximum current: 10A, maximum power: 2200W

The principle of operation of this switch is simple. Just connect the cables of the device you want to control with this switch, link it from your eWeLink application with the WiFi network, and ready for use. The switch has an input (with conductor N and L) and an output (with conductor N and L). Charges of up to 2200W can be connected, but we recommend using devices with less power. According to the manufacturer, the standby consumption (Stabndby) is less than 0.5 W. We have measured 0.4W.

The best thing is that we can integrate the switch with an alternative firmware , for example Sonoff-Tasmota. In this way we can use the Sonoff in the domotic systems of open code like HASS.io, ioBroker or openHAB. The Sonoff Basic Smart Switch can also be controlled with Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant or Nest.

Here we show you how we can flash the Sonoff switch, so you can use it with the Tasmota firmware. As a guide I recommend the ” Flash Sonoff using Raspberry Pi “.

Sonoff Basic WiFi smart switch with Tasmota

Important: this installation should not be done by anyone, because it could be dangerous. Do not forget that before carrying out the installation the switch must be disconnected from the 220 V network,

Sonoff Basic intelligent WiFi switch , an intelligent switch that allows us to turn on and off any home electronic device with our smartphone
some of the devices that we can connect to the Sonoff smart switch

If you already have an open source home automation platform such as Home Assistant or you want to add one to your home, we have good news for you. The WifI Sonoff switch can be easily flashed, for example, through a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B or its GPIOs, as the popular ESP8266 module is used .

OTA updates “Over the Air”, that is, flashing “over the air” (without having to connect to a PC) with, for example, Windows, normally no longer works, because the Sonoff firmware of the modules supplied is too new (newer than version 1.6). If the firmware is relatively old, it can be flashed with SONOTA. However, the best way to carry out this process is with the raspberry. It seems as if we are hacking something, I like it!

Sonoff switch open. On the sides the entrances and exits, in the center the contacts to flash it.

The back: In principle the pins can also be welded.

If you have a 3D printer at home or nearby, you can print a Sonoff programming clip . With it, you simply hook the pins in the contacts (and you do not need matches like me, it’s not the most professional way to do it).

I fixed the cables to the Raspberry Pi in a very professional way.
In principle it should not take long to do the flashing. If we follow the guide correctly, the process is quite easy.

Conclusion

In my opinion, this should be the goal of “Smart-Home”. To be able to network the sensors or switches and actuators that we have discreetly, so that they simplify our life and turn our home into a more intelligent home.

The price is very good, the possibilities are huge. If you prefer a “normal” smart plug (including grounding), you should take a look at the Sonoff S20.

Free Slideshow Maker Tools Review

On the surface slideshows are simple, and all you need to do is compile photos in sequence to create them. However good slideshows involve much more than that, and leverage other audiovisual elements to allow them to make them more interesting, deliver messages more effectively, or establish a tone.

In order to create a slideshow complete with audiovisual elements, you need the right software – which is where Slideshow Maker comes in. It is a specialized slideshow creation tool that will let you compile your slideshow and add other elements to make it look, sound, and feel amazing.

Part of the reason why Slideshow Maker is such an attractive option is the fact that it will let you choose between two modes when creating your slideshow. If you want to quickly compile a simple slideshow with music and animated transition you can select the ‘Easy mode’. On the other hand if you want greater control over the audiovisual elements that you add, you should pick the ‘Full feature mode’ instead.

Take Advantage of Comprehensive Features

While the ‘Easy mode’ will limit you to adding a particular style of transition between all slides, and including background music from the built-in tracks or your own audio file – the ‘Full feature mode’ of Slideshow Maker has no such limitations. In fact its comprehensive features will allow you to:

Movavi Slideshow Maker : Incorporate video footage alongside images in your slideshow

  • Incorporate video footage alongside images in your slideshow.
  • Place specific animated transitions between any slides that you want.
  • Apply different types of artistic filters or special effects to give your slideshow a unique vibe.
  • Add and customize text elements to create captions, subtitles, watermarks, bullet points, and more.
  • Include background music and set the slide duration to match its tempo.
  • Edit videos and images to fix any issues or enhance their quality.
  • Edit audio tracks to equalize or normalize sound levels, remove background noise, or apply audio effects.
  • Record a voiceover on the spot via a microphone.

As you can see not only will Slideshow Maker allow you to add various types of audiovisual elements, but it will give you full control over each and every one of them. All it will take is a bit of experimentation to familiarize yourself with the range of features that it provides, and you should be able to apply them to your slideshows.

At the end of the day if you want to create slideshows that look unique, stand out, and are visually impressive – Slideshow Maker can certainly help. It will provide the best of both worlds by giving you an easy way to come up with great slideshows, while also ensuring that you have the features you need to incorporate a variety of audiovisual elements.

Getting A Web Design – The Options

In 2016 there are more options than ever when it comes to getting a website online. In the past, you used to have to either do it yourself (which used to be difficult) or you had to open your wallet and hire a professional – usually for a relatively large amount of money. Thankfully things have changed in just a short space of time and there are now more options than ever when it comes to creating a website and getting it online. In this article we’re going to look at some of the options available to you when it comes to designing and getting your website online. This is not by any means a complete guide but it does cover the major options available in web design today.

learning basic web design is something that could be mastered in a few weeks

Free / Premium Templates and Themes

As time goes on, more and more people are creating HTML5 templates and blog/CMS themes such as those for WordPress and Joomla. The fact is, template design for multiple sales is big business and a talented web design can earn more by creating a design and putting it on the likes of ThemeForest than they could doing the same design as a bespoke job for a talent. But of course with so many people doing it, it also can become a bit hit and miss and you could spend months working on a template or theme only to find nobody buys it! Templates are fantastic if you have the ability to knock a site together as you can pick up a decent one for less than $40 or in some cases for free! But of course the design will not be unique to you and if you don’t know what you’re doing even using a high end premium template can end up looking poor once you put your information in it. With web design it’s important the design is made to fit the information it is offering not vice versa.

Hire a Designer

This might seem like an obvious one but believe it or not it’s becoming less and less of a popular approach. To be blunt, there are so many cheap or free templates out there these days that look a million times better than anything 95% of the “web designers” out there could be truth. The other 5% tend to be stacked up with jobs from bluechip companies with $10,000+ budgets so hiring a designer who can actually do a better look and feel than an off the shelf template might not actually be feasible. If you want to hire a designer you’re going to have to look at a lot of portfolios and get a lot of quotes until you find someone who is both feasible and can actually do a better job than the free template sites.

Teach Yourself

This might seem like a daunting option for most people but in reality, learning basic web design is something that could be mastered in a few weeks. Especially if you’re combining “learning” with the editing of an off the shelf premium template. The best way to learn anything is trial and error so if this is something you’re interested in get an off the shelf template with lots of elements already written/coded and have a play around. You’ll no doubt surprise yourself at how easy it is to add images/text and whatever else to a design with the end result ending up probably much better than it would after being lost in dialogue between you and a third party designer who is just out to make money.

Stick to Facebook!

The other option is, don’t bother with a website at all. If you’re just looking to post news/updates about your business, share photos and have a way for people to get in touch with you for whatever reason then perhaps a Facebook page is going to be good enough for you? You can setup facebook.com/yourbrand in a matter of minutes and begin posting information and photos almost immediately. You also have the added ability to allow people to get in touch with you and comment on the very things you’re sharing. Of course it’s not for everyone and maybe will prefer the flexibility that comes with having their own custom design but for those just wanting a cheap solution to get their name/brand/info out there onto the Internet it can be a good first step!

Intel is one of the main sponsors of the Game Developer Conference that was held these days in San Francisco, taking advantage of their status and have made a presentation with good news. Apple iPhone 5S vs Samsung Galaxy S4

Last week, the world of Smartphone was marked by the arrival of the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C from Apple. If you have a small way up the latest information about this, you should definitely have an idea in mind of features as well as new what do these smartphones compared to their big brothers. We have presented the information needed to make a face to face with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Apple iPhone 5S.

Design

At first glance, one can immediately see that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is greater than the iPhone 5S, which measures 137x70x7.9mm for a total weight of 112 grams, while the Galaxy S4 weighs 130 grams. However, although the Galaxy S4 is greater than the iPhone 5S, Galaxy S4 is much more comfortable. Otherwise, Apple has always kept a very good aesthetics of the new iPhone, but here it is rather matter of taste.

Screen

If the Galaxy S4 has a larger screen, it also has a higher resolution display quality compared to the screen of the iPhone 5S. Indeed, the Super AMOLED screen 5-inch Samsung Galaxy S4 offers a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with a pixel density of 441 ppi, while the iPhone 5S is equipped with a screen 4 inches with a resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels.

iPhone 5S offers internal storage ranging from 16 GB to 128 GB which is not expandable

On this point, I much prefer the Samsung Galaxy S4, because it will be more comfortable to surf the internet, watch video or play on a 5-inch screen Full HD on a 4 inch screen.

Internal Storage

The iPhone 5S offers internal storage ranging from 16 GB to 128 GB which is not expandable. For its part, the Galaxy S4 offers an internal memory of 16 GB up to 64 GB Everything can be expandable via a memory card up to 64GB.

Processor

It is true that the iPhone 5S is ahead of the Galaxy S4 on the processor. Indeed, if the clock is not yet known, it is known that the iPhone 5S runs SoC M7 which has the particularity to be 64 bits. Furthermore, this architecture allows for better management of battery life thanks to the low power core that is perfectly synchronized with the accelerometer, gyroscope and other sensors of the smartphone so that it can recognize the positions its user. For its part, the Galaxy S4 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, which is clocked at 1.9 GHz. However, there is a version of the Galaxy S4 Snapdragon that runs 800.

Software

Regarding software, TouchWiz overlay Samsung Galaxy S4 is responsible for several new features that slow down from time to time the user interface, but are for the most part, very helpful. For its part, the iPhone 5S runs on the new Apple iOS7 which has the particularity to be very fluid system. If the iPhone interface is very simple and fun to watch, that Android is still ahead on its customization. Moreover, although it takes some getting used to at first, it is always easy to navigate the Samsung TouchWiz overlay.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is greater than the iPhone 5S

Camera

It is still too early to judge the camera of the iPhone 5S since no test has yet been done about it. We just know that it uses the same technology as the HTC UltraPixel One, but with a higher resolution 8 MP, pushing the pixel to 1.2 microns to 2 microns against the HTC One. For its part, the camera is a digital camera of the Samsung “standard” which uses a resolution of 13 MP. We certainly know more about this when tests will be conducted.

Battery

Finally, if a lot of people say it has no great significance, being able to quickly replace the battery presents itself as a real asset for smartphones of the moment. In any case, if the iPhone 5S does not always allow users to access the battery, Samsung is one of the few manufacturers that still provide the possibility of its flagship smartphones.

Again, I prefer the Galaxy S4, because after some time the batteries hold less charge, so that if you want to keep your smartphone for a while, it is best that you can change the battery when the latter struggling to keep the charges.

ASUS MeMO Pad ME302C: new HD tablet with Intel x86 Processor

The ASUS MeMO Pad ME302C is a new tablet with HD display and is equipped with an x86 processor from Intel.

In a little over a month the Computex 2013 held in Taiwan found this new device. In addition to many other manufacturers, ASUS will also certainly imagine there again some tablets. One of them is now surfaced in the GLBenchmark database with the product number ME302C. That sounds very much a successor of the 10.1-inch ASUS MeMO Pad Smart which bears the name ME301T. Presumably, these are therefore a tablet.

ASUS MeMO Pad ME302C is a new tablet with HD display and is equipped with an x86 processor from Intel

Unfortunately, many details were could not be read from the database. It is certain in any case, ASUS MeMO Pad ME302C runs on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. In addition, the tablet is a 1.6 GHz x86 processor stuck, it could be either the Intel Atom Z2560 – but that’s a guess. We also know that the resolution of the display is 1920 × 1200 pixels. Therefore, these are probably a tablet with a 10.1 inch HD display.

After the ASUS Fonepad ME302C it would be the second tablet from ASUS, which is equipped with an x86 processor and runs on the Android operating system. Intel has tried a long time to break into that market with ASUS and they seem to have found a good partner for it.

Trends in IT: Which Direction is Virtualisation Heading?

As cloud computing redefines IT as an enabler of enterprise, virtualisation is becoming the engine room for business innovation and growth. It is the capability of a cutting-edge virtual hardware stack that is helping businesses to differentiate in new and exciting ways.

Here we discuss two major trends that will see the future of IT deployment evolve even further in the cloud, driven with great flexibility by resilient and secure virtualisation platforms.

It is here that there is an increasing shift to adopt virtualisation technologies that maximise performance from an IT stack through multi-tasking and auto-scheduling of processor intensive tasks such as e-mail exchange

Trend 1: Multi-Core Processing Power

As end users demand greater awareness and transparency from IT, its capacity to process big data will hold the key to next-generation customer awareness and market analytics. Multi-core high performance GPU computing will elevate the potential of dynamic online business processes, helping people to act more quickly and intuitively, bringing products to market with speed and agility whilst integrating mobile devices and apps with seamless efficiency.

In a recent study by VMWare, it was found that organisations running virtual machines have increased by 73% over the past two years. It is here that there is an increasing shift to adopt virtualisation technologies that maximise performance from an IT stack through multi-tasking and auto-scheduling of processor intensive tasks such as e-mail exchange, collaboration services and database management.

As data volume, velocity and variety builds pressure on every aspect of business, the efficient storage and filtration of data into meaningful information becomes critical. Virtualisation offers the only real solution on which to house a robust data centre at scale, whilst load balancing servers and creating a performance optimised IT infrastructure. Deploying virtual machines as opposed to physical servers run and managed as an internal entity will maximise the potential of IT as a growing concern.

In the future it will be important to utilise the massive power of CPU and GPU technologies through a virtual environment that can expand the reach and processing capabilities of an organisations website, ecommerce platform, communications network and everything in between.

Virtualisation will continue to transform IT services by enabling single and multi-core processors to balance workloads. Effectively harnessing IT will help deploy collaborative assets across hybrid, private or public cloud environments. Using virtual machines and third party hosting, as opposed to internal IT stacks that hog resources, will bring huge financial savings without spiralling hardware and energy costs.

Trend 2: The Era of Ultra-Mobility

Mobile devices are fundamentally changing the way businesses interact with customers, collaborate with partners and integrate business functions to improve the performance of staff. In the future, mobile devices are set to become indispensable as usability and network resilience improve further, connecting every internal and external stakeholder.

Without the restrictions of being at a desk or physical location, remote workflow management can be streamlined with supreme efficiency. Using smartphones, tablets and next-generation mobile devices will marginalise the desktop PC, laptop and physical server room even further. The advancement of mobile technologies already provides anywhere, any-time portability of operations, services and products. It is my belief that the massive growth of cloud computing, spawned from a mobile technology base, will result in even greater levels of mobile technology uptake.

Through the cloud we have seen a revolution in virtualisation. In the future it will further empower elastic IT that drives the next generation of remote hosting, managed and maintained by technical experts, measured and monitored as a tactical resource.

Virtualisation is set to become the central part of every organisations IT strategy. With unlimited capacity, customisation and processing power, virtual machines will facilitate next-generation multimedia, connectivity, CRM and BI in the cloud. It will do so by creating the highest levels of usability, speed and agility, whilst handling the considerable challenges of big data, latency and cyber-crime.
